FAQs
Frequently asked questions
What exactly does a doula do?
A doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after childbirth. We don’t replace medical professionals — we complement their care by ensuring you feel seen, heard, and empowered throughout your journey.
How is a doula different from a midwife?
While midwives provide medical care and deliver babies, doulas offer non-medical support — including comfort techniques, advocacy, and emotional care. We focus on your overall well-being, not just the medical side of birth.
What’s the difference between postpartum depression and just being tired or stressed?
Some fatigue and mood changes are expected in the postpartum period, especially with disrupted sleep and the demands of caring for a newborn. But when feelings of sadness, irritability, anxiety, or disinterest in everyday life persist and begin to affect your ability to function or connect, it may be more than just exhaustion. At Healing Roots Therapy in Mississauga and online across Ontario, we can help you understand what you’re experiencing and offer personalized support, whether you’re dealing with postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, or simply need a space to feel heard.
When should I hire a doula?
It’s never too early to reach out! Many clients connect with us during their second trimester, but we welcome you at any stage of pregnancy — even close to your due date.
Do you only support Black mothers?
Our services are inclusive and open to all families. However, we place special emphasis on supporting Black mothers and families who often face unique challenges during pregnancy and birth.
What if I’ve experienced pregnancy or infant loss?
You are not alone. We offer gentle grief support for families navigating loss — providing a safe, compassionate space to process emotions and begin healing at your own pace.
Do you offer virtual or in-person support?
Yes, both. We offer in-person support (depending on your location) and virtual sessions for consultations, emotional support, and postpartum check-ins.
How much do your services cost?
Our pricing varies depending on your needs — whether you’re seeking birth support, postpartum care, or grief support. During your consultation, we’ll discuss your goals and provide a plan that fits your needs and budget.
How do I get started?
Simply click “Book a Consultation” to schedule a session. We’ll discuss your birth goals, preferences, and how we can best support you on your journey.
